The Effect of Knowledge Management Practice on the Performance in Ethiopian Universities: Mediated by Transformational Leadership

Abstract

The basic aim of this investigation is to investigate the effect of knowledge management practices on performance in Ethiopian universities: being mediated by transformational leadership. the argument is that knowledge management by itself is not a guarantee for institutional excellence unless mediated by effective transformational leadership values. the investigation was quantitatively designed.  Structural equation modeling was used as a data analysis tool. the fitness of the model was statistically tested and found robust.  empirical evidence also revealed the same thing. the indirect effect [being-mediated] of knowledge management on universities' performance in the path analysis model is greater than that the the direct effect [non-mediated]. this proves the argument that knowledge management is passive to directly influence performance unless complemented by effective transformational leadership. vales. accordingly, I suggest universities in Ethiopia pay due attention to the surge in the synergetic effort of knowledge management and transformational leadership for the betterment of performance. Moreover, they should inculcate these two concepts in their strategic vision, mission, and goals. lastly, effective knowledge management policies, strategies, systems, and programs should be designed to facilitate the alignment between knowledge management, transformational leadership, and university performance.
